In the early stages of my personal development, it felt like drinking from a fire hydrant. I couldn’t get enough. There was so much to learn, so much to unlearn, and aha moments everywhere.
As exciting as that was, I eventually hit a wall: the gap between knowing and doing. I realized a lot of us become information containers. It feels like growing, but the growth stops translating into results. In fact, the returns start to shrink.
So what does that mean?
Diminishing returns means each extra unit of effort gives you less than the one before. The first book, the first course, the first mentor can change how you see everything. The fortieth gives you a new way to say what you already know. The input keeps climbing while the results stay flat.
It applies here because the bottleneck has moved. Early on, what you lacked was information. Now what you lack is action, and more information can’t close a gap that information didn’t create.
The old version of you was built to collect. The future version has to be built to apply.
